No es de extrañar que el castillo de Chillon sea uno de los monumentos más visitados de Suiza. Con su arquitectura extraodinaria y la belleza de su paisaje entre el lago y las montañas, Chillon es un lugar mágico.

Visitar el castillo es como remontar el tiempo. Cada sala revela una parte de su historia – le llevará a compartir la vida cotidiana de los duques de Saboya o de los gobernadores de Berna.

Descubrirá las pinturas murales del siglo catorce en el dormitorio del duque de Saboya y en su capilla y la impresionante colección de baúles y de muebles antiguos que adornan cada habitación. Cuatro salas de fiesta en las que solían celebrarse magníficos banquetes le llevará a revivir como un príncipe en su tiempo. Chillon es además una fortaleza militar de mayor importancia protegida al sur por el lago. La parte norte se compone de torres de defensa y de un camino de ronda en el que exponemos numerosas armas y armaduras.

Esta ciudadela milenaria no dejó de inspirar a artistas como los escritores Rousseau o Hugo, o los pintores Delacroix y Courbet. Muchas leyendas nacieron de este lugar. Entre las más famosas, la leyenda de Bonivard, héroe del famoso poema de Lord Byron « Prisionero en Chillon ». No deje de ver el célebre pilar del sótano al cual fue encadenado.

It’s no surprise that Chillon Castle is one of the most visited monuments in Switzerland. The architecture is so beautiful it takes you breath away, and the location between the mountains and the lake is absolutely magical!

Visiting Chillon Castle is like stepping back in time. Each room reveals yet another part of its history, as well as the daily life and habits of the court of the House of Savoy and of the Bernese Bailiffs.

Discover the 14th century murals in the Duke of Savoy’s bedchamber and in the chapel, and see the large collection of wooden chests and furniture in all the rooms. The four great reception halls, where sumptuous banquets and feasting took place in the past, will plunge you right into the life in the Middle Ages. But never forget that Chillon is a fortress. It is protected by the lake but, facing the mountain, defensive towers and the sentry walk on the ramparts served to keep enemies at bay. Many weapons are on display.

Throughout the years, this thousand-year-old citadel has inspired the imagination of writers and artists, from Rousseau to Victor Hugo, from Delacroix to Courbet. Legends galore sprung up here, including the most famous one of Bonivard, rendered immortal in the poem by Lord Byron - The Prisoner of Chillon. Viewing the pillar in the underground dungeon where he was chained up is something not to be missed.
