You can now adjust the background white-noise track and the cat-purr track separately. Bring the cat closer and let its gentle breathing lull you, or fade the purrs into the distance while the ambient layer keeps you company.
New Dual-Layer Track – “Summer-Night Thunderstorm”
I searched for this soundscape for years. During two years of travel across Southeast Asia, I spent one rainy season in a tiny village on the edge of the rainforest. On many sticky July nights I fell asleep to rolling thunder in the hills and a chorus of crickets nearby.
Sometimes the storm crept in slowly, rain tapping like footsteps on the roof. Other nights a single muffled thunderclap cracked the sky open, followed by a torrent so loud I couldn’t hear my own thoughts. I would sit beneath the eaves with a desk-lamp and a drink, watching sheets of rain blur the dim forest lights in the distance until my nerves, worn thin by vigilance, finally surrendered to sleep.
Back then there was no cat warming my lap, and the solitude felt sharper for it. Re-creating that balance of alertness and comfort became a personal project. Pair this “Summer-Night Thunderstorm” with the cat-purr track: turn the purr up at bedtime for a sense of company, or dial up the rain and thunder when you need to stay relaxed yet awake for work or meditation.
No recording can rival the living forest, so if you can, steal a long weekend during the wet season—find a country cottage, wait for a summer storm, and let real thunder tuck you in.
New Dual-Layer Track – “Tropical Island”
I finally learned to surf this spring. The very first time was three years ago in Riyue Bay, Wanning, but back then surfing felt more like a social-media badge than a love affair. Early this year I moved to a coastal town almost by accident, picked up a board, and never looked back.
After a hard session the most luxurious feeling is to sprawl on the sand at the high-tide line, board in my arms, and listen. A wave charges up the beach, crashes over my feet, then drains away in a whisper around my ears. Because my eyes are closed, timing each incoming surge by sound alone gives every wash of foam a tiny thrill—the perfect mental massage, neither mind-numbingly calm nor relentlessly tense. Limbs loose, letting the tide nudge them—truly going with the flow.
That floating, weightless calm is what the “Tropical Island” track aims to capture. Lie back, press play, and let the surf roll in.
